Opinion: Lukashenko, Putin seek to bring peace to Ukraine

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin are seeking to preserve Ukraine and bring peace to this country, politician, former member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine representing the Party of Regions Aleksei Zhuravko told the On Point online project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

“From the very beginning I considered the Minsk Agreements to be the right thing. As long as guns do not fire, it is necessary to carry on with negotiations. At the moment, there is no one to have talks with. Zelensky thinks that he will play cat and mouse and talk round this situation. Yet, he has curators who want this conflict to go on as long as possible so that there is more destruction, more bloodshed. In the end, all this will have to be rebuilt. Who will do this? America will not help us. Europe will not help. This will have to be done by neighbors, because they do not want fire or smoldering coals at their doorstep. We do not need people who bring grief and death. Bandits, swindlers and so on. We need a peaceful society. The more you keep it going and the more you nurture something terrible, the harder it will be to get out of this crisis,” Aleksei Zhuravko said.

He commented on Ukraine's refusal to hold peace talks in the territory of Belarus. “Why involve someone who does not want this? Lukashenko has fulfilled his mission. Both Putin and Lukashenko did everything so that fewer people died. They sought to bring peace to Ukraine. They tried to preserve it. But Ukraine wants to trigger a new conflict in order to drag Belarus into it. I am sure that Belarus will intervene only when it feels a threat to its own people. Today we see a recurrence of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War,” the former MP said.
