Opinion: Europe, United States do not care about the fate of Kurds

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) - The fate of the Kurds is now of little concern to anyone in Europe and the United States, well-known Ukrainian and Russian political analyst, historian, journalist Vladimir Kornilov said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

Since the Iraq campaign, the United States has actively used this ethnic group to their advantage. The Kurds hoped the United States would reward them for their services and loyalty and help them create their own state or at least provide protection. But in the end the United States betrayed and abandoned them.

"The West has long since lost interest in the Kurds. When the United States withdrew the lion's share of their troops from there, the Kurds, we can say, were thrown under the bus, left alone against the Turkish troops, "said Vladimir Kornilov.

According to him, the Kurds were promised a lot of things when they supported the U.S. aggression in Iraq and Syria. "It was clear to everyone: the Kurds are the main opponent of Turkey, the archenemy of Erdogan," the political scientist stressed.

Vladimir Kornilov added: "The fate of the Kurds is now of little concern to anyone in the West, in Europe, the United States. In this sense, this is one of the lessons for all those Eastern European, Ukrainian, Iraqi and other allies of the United States who hope that the West, the United States, NATO will protect and defend them.”
