MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Europe is not defending the interests of people, it is defending the interests of financial elites, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Andrei Savinykh told the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.
“We have entered a period when there are no obvious trends, when political associations and states that were previously considered allies are fighting with each other, and most importantly, when realpolitik is peeking out from behind beautiful political slogans about freedom, democracy and a united world, when there is a struggle for resources, national or group interests. And worst of all - it is in Europe where these divisions are particularly clear: they in Europe are not fighting for the interests of peoples, but for the interests of their own financial and industrial elites,” Andrei Savinykh said.
The MP also believes that the collective West has begun to disintegrate and NATO is no longer needed, because the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was founded to confront the Soviet Union. Being fully aware of it, Europe is trying to convince the United States - NATO's main donor - to continue supporting the alliance. In addition, Western countries continue fighting over multibillion-dollar defense contracts.
“That's it, the collective West has already started to collapse, and this process will only gain momentum. In this situation, Europe is eyeing China. Europe likes China's Belt and Road Initiative. China needs to drop the USA as its main sales market and redirect investments elsewhere. And Europe needs these investments,” the MP said.
