MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – After the end of hostilities in Ukraine, demobilized military personnel with post-traumatic stress disorder may turn into a social nuclear bomb not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe, economist and analyst Serghei Banari said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The end of hostilities in Ukraine is not long in coming. There will be no war, military action, hostilities - call it whatever you want - in Ukraine in 2026. If an agreement is not reached by the end of June (plus or minus two or three weeks), at least two more regions are likely to be lost,” Serghei Banari said. According to the analyst, this will call into question Ukraine's economic prospects going forward. The government will simply not have the resources to rebuild the completely destroyed economy.
We went on saying that Ukraine will be inundated with demobilized combatants who will struggle to return to normal life, as no one will help them integrate in the society. “500,000-600,000 people with post-traumatic stress disorder are akin to an uncontrollable social nuclear bomb. Some of them might join oligarchic private military companies that will fight with each other for remaining assets,” the analyst believes.
Serghei Banari added that the rest of them can pose a threat first to residents of Ukraine, and then to all of Europe: “They do not fully understand what crime is. They should study the experience of Colombia and Mexico, where drug cartels have their own private armies.”
