Opinion: Belarusians should not make excuses for their past, present

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – Belarusians should clearly understand that they should not make excuses to anyone for their past and present, Deputy Head for Research of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Professor Nikolai Buzin told the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper, BelTA informs.

“Today, some are trying to say that Wehrmacht troops respected international norms and conventions. This is not true. What happened on the territory of Belarus can be defined as genocide. Germany systematically and consciously exploited all the resources of the occupied territories to address its own military and other tasks. Contrary to the convention on the protection of civilians, the local population, including children - the future of the nation, was killed in the course of hostilities,” Nikolai Buzin noted.

According to him, for many years certain facts remained classified. “The number of those who witnessed the war is decreasing. This is used by those who are interested in falsifying history and erasing the memory. Hence the attempts to raise flags with alien symbols on our land. Belarusians should have a clear understanding that we should not make excuses to anyone for our past and present. We gave everything we could to save our country. This fact should become part and parcel of the patriotic education of the younger generation,” he concluded.
