MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) - Belarus will continue strengthening and developing the family policy, Lilia Ananich, deputy chairperson of the Belarusian Union of Women, said in an interview with BelTA
“I am sure that the state will continue the social course towards strengthening the family policy,” Lilia Ananich said. She cited as an example the slogan “By strengthening the family we strengthen the country”. According to her, the family policy is centered around the traditions, spiritual and moral values.
“We shall continue promoting the women's movement and supporting mothers in every way possible, paying special attention to families with many children. The country needs more children. To do this, the MPs have been reinforcing the social legislation," Lilia Ananich said.
Marianna Shchetkina, Chairwoman of the Belarusian Union of Women, noted that the conditions for the birth and upbringing of children are more favorable in Belarus than in some other countries. The maternity leave in Belarus is one of the longest in the world, up to three years. Marianna Shchetkina noted that the state has been doing a lot to support families. “More than 8% of GDP is spent on the measures to support families with children, of which at least 1.8% of GDP goes to cash benefits,” she said.
