MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) - We should adapt to the current global development trends and preserve the country, Vadim Borovik, a political scientist, the chairman of the supervisory board of the Belarusian Committee of Youth Associations, said in an interview with the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper commenting on the president's New Year's address, BelTA has learned.
“In his address Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that 2020 was a difficult year but very useful in terms of understanding the priorities and values that all Belarusians should protect. It is clear that we must unite as a nation, overcome any differences. The Belarusian People's Congress, which will have the widest representation, can be the means to achieve this. All sectors of society will be able to contribute to the eocnomic and social agenda for the next five years, to develop mechanisms of political interaction within the country. It will help us preserve the country, develop and transform the system so that we can take into account different opinions, including the demand for changes," Vadim Borovik stresses.
He believes that today Belarus must adapt to the current global development trends. "It is important to preserve all useful things that we have created, not to destabilize the political system. We cannot follow the calls of opportunists who, in their pursuit of everything new and unfamiliar, are ready to risk the economic stability. It's not going to happen. At the people's congress, we must take decisions that will allow us to transform the Belarusian political system in an evolutionarily, calm way. Then some decisions in terms of referendum, amendments to the Constitution may follow, but it should happen in a thoughtful way,” the political scientist thinks. “The Belarusian People's Congress is a meeting platform where we can discuss different points of view and make informed decisions. It's going to be a process. We don't have to expect that the decisions adopted at the congress will change everything instantly. This is one of the first important steps that will allow to gradually improve the political system, not to break it, not to destroy everything and then rebuild anew."
