MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Belarus' five-year program of social and economic development is aimed at improving people's wellbeing, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Housing Policy and Construction of the House of Representatives Viktor Nikolaikin told BelTA.
“The five-year social and economic development program is aimed at improving people's welfare. Creation of comfortable living conditions, first of all, comfortable housing, is of no small importance here. It is crucial that we do not reduce the pace of construction. What is housing construction? It is the driver behind all other sectors of the economy. Housing construction needs the production of necessary building materials. This means the operation of factories and enterprises, jobs, wage growth, constant employment of people. Once people build houses, they need to buy wallpaper, furniture and appliances. This is the true economic driver,” said Viktor Nikolaikin.
The MP noted that the state has always supported and will continue to support those categories of citizens who need it. “It is not a question of providing assistance to everyone at once. This is pinpointed social support. First, these are families with many children. This is an issue of demographic security. By supporting large families, we have prospects for the development of our country in the future. Secondly, it is the support for young families. I am happy that the country's draft social and economic development program contains all these topics,” he added.
The 6th Belarusian People's Congress will take place in Minsk on 11-12 February 2021. The congress will discuss the main provisions of Belarus' social and economic development program for 2021-2025 and also the trends of the country's social and political development. The total number of the participants and invitees will be 2,700 people.
