MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – The number of foreign students at Belarusian medical universities has grown to 5,000 over the course of five years, Olga Kolyupanova, Head of the Personnel and Professional Training Directorate of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry, told journalists, BelTA reports.

“About 20,000 future doctors and pharmacists are studying at our universities. Of these, 5,000 are foreign citizens. Five years ago, the number of foreign medical students did not exceed 3,000. Today, 5,000 foreign students from 63 countries study here,” Olga Kolyupanova said.

She emphasized that the sanctions did not discourage foreign students from getting education in Belarus, because this education is known for its high quality and focus on practical skills.

Moreover, foreign nationals undertake internships and stay here for work. This is about 100-150 people per year, mostly from the CIS countries, the head of the directorate remarked.

Belarus has four medical universities that train doctors and pharmacists and 16 medical colleges that train mid-level healthcare providers.
