MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) - Nuclear weapons are one of the main strategic deterrents to the plans against Belarus, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defense Viktor Gulevich told reporters, BelTA has learned.
"In any case, nuclear weapons are one of the main strategic deterrents to those leaders who have been hatching plans against the Republic of Belarus," Viktor Gulevich said before a meeting with the members of the House of Representatives on the draft Military Doctrine of Belarus.
"We are fine-turning the main changes to the Military Doctrine. The document will be submitted to the Belarusian People's Congress for approval," he noted.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces stressed that the most important thing is that the doctrine preserves a focus on peace-loving policy. "We do not treat any nation as an enemy,” he said and suggested that the leaders who maintain negative rhetoric against Belarus study the Military Doctrine after it is published.
