Novitsky: There is no place for politics in space

ZVYOZDNY GORODOK, 1 March (BelTA) – There is no place for politics in space, all political issues must be solved on Earth, crew commander Oleg Novitsky said during a pre-flight conference with the participation of the ISS-71/VE-21 prime and backup crews at the Cosmonaut Training Center, BelTA has learned.

Visiting Expedition 21 to the International Space Station, which is scheduled to launch on 21 March, includes representatives of Belarus, Russia and the United States.

When asked about whether the tense international situation has somehow affected the relationship between the crew members or whether there is a taboo on political topics in the crew, Oleg Novitsky said: "We are out of politics. We are professionals. We have a flight program and we execute it. Everyone at the station supports each other, and if there is an emergency, we will not set boundaries and not help each other because of this."

"If any political issues arise, they should be resolved not in space, but by politicians. We are doing our job," Oleg Novitsky said.
