MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – A unique sport and gastronomic event, Nordic Food Time in Belarus, is expected in Minsk on 12 May, BelTA learnt from Head of Finland's Embassy Office in Belarus Lauri Pullola, the organizer of the event.
Representatives of the hockey teams, diplomats and businessmen of the Scandinavian countries will get together for the New Nordic Food project led by prominent chef Kim Palhus to create some fine cuisine pieces and share gastronomic preferences.
According to Lauri Pullola, North-European countries such as Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland represent a unique European region united by long-standing friendship and cultural ties. Four Nordic teams (Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway) will take part in Minsk's world championship. The representative of the Finnish embassy stressed that it is a good opportunity to show the Belarusians Northern Europe, tell them more about these countries.
According to the diplomat, all the Nordic participants of the world championship have showed interest in the event and will make everything possible to send their players and other representatives of the teams to the project.
The aim of the project which participants will also be well-known Belarusian athletes is to popularize a health lifestyle and show that the use of local products can turn into a real art. The project that will be held at the Renaissance Hotel kitchen will be broadcast online.
Similar gastronomic shows have been held in many countries and so-called ambassadors of the Nordic cuisine (famous chefs from the North-European countries) promoted their food culture. Lauri Pullola stressed that the event in Minsk would unite the cuisine and sport for the first time.
When asked about fans from the Scandinavian countries in Belarus, Lauri Pullola noted that it is hard to predict the precise number. He expressed hope for many Scandinavian fans in Minsk and stressed the confidence in a much bigger number of people to watch the games from home. In Scandinavian countries, especially Finland and Sweden, ice hockey is one of the most popular sports, the diplomat added.
