MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) - No complaints have been filed yet with the Supreme Court during the current election campaign in Belarus, First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Supreme Court Valery Kalinkovich told the media, BelTA learned.
“It is the remit of the courts to consider complaints and resolve disputes in the electoral legislation, which relate to the main points of the election campaign. So far, no such complaints have been filed during the current election campaign. In our opinion, this is evidence of sufficient clarity and comprehensibility of the electoral legislation, and of a sufficiently high level of legality of all processes in the election campaign,” Valery Kalinkovich said.
On 9 January, representatives of the CIS observation mission to the presidential election of the Republic of Belarus met with the leadership of the Supreme Court of Belarus. “During the meeting the parties discussed the application of the electoral legislation, the role and place of judicial competences in electoral processes, and the practical issues of interaction and information exchange,” Valery Kalinkovich said.
The CIS observation mission started working in Belarus on 18 December. This is the 13th mission to observe elections and referendums in Belarus and the 130th mission to work in the territory of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The CIS observation mission strictly abides by Belarusian laws, respects the sovereignty of the state, and objectively evaluates the preparation and conduct of the election.
Belarus’ presidential election is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
