MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – A delegation of the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria led by the agency's Controller General Ibrahim Liman visited the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development of the Civil Protection University of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry on 27 October, the ministry's press service told BelTA. The delegation was made familiar with the educational potential of the institute and with the tactical training area for firefighters and rescue workers in Borisov District, Minsk Oblast.
A number of Nigerian specialists have already been trained by the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development. Thus, 20 Nigerian specialists took courses in the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development in May 2021. The courses focused on operating compressed air devices, investigating fires, carrying out emergency response and rescue work in emergency areas, responding to chemical accidents, biological, radiological, and nuclear incidents. Twelve specialists were trained in emergency response and rescue work in high-rise buildings in October.
Several other groups will be trained in various spheres in the future. While in Belarus the delegation also intends to examine capabilities and the physical infrastructure of the Minsk city branch of the Emergencies Ministry.
BelTA reported earlier that the delegation of the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria arrived in Belarus on 26 October in order to take a closer look into the possibility of training Nigerian specialists in the Civil Protection University of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and in an educational institution in Nigeria. The provision of methodological aid with developing the Nigerian legislation on preventing emergencies and alleviating consequences of emergencies is also on the agenda of the visit. Controller General of the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria Ibrahim Liman met with Belarusian Deputy Emergencies Minister Andrei Yurzhits in the Civil Protection University on 26 October.
