MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Ensuring military security of the state is of huge importance for the development of all spheres of life, BelTA learned from Major-General Pavel Muraveiko, who has been appointed Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister.

Pavel Muraveiko said: “It is an important and interesting step in my career. This position is very complicated and comes with a lot of responsibility. With a huge range of obligations and tasks. This is why I am grateful to the head of state for trusting me and endorsing my nomination for the position of the chief of the General Staff.”

The officer stressed that ensuring military security of the state is of huge importance for the development of all spheres of life. “If we have peace, if artillery shells don’t drop on us, if things are calm at our borders, then it means we can grow crops, raise kids, develop culture, art, and all the other areas. All of it hinges on security,” he pointed out.

In his words, the General Staff is the key body that coordinates other army units, military formations, and government agencies as part of the entire system designed to ensure national security. Defense planning and strategic planning as a whole are a rather complicated process in modern conditions, the General Staff chief noted. Because the situation around Belarus changes all the time and very fast. Among other things he mentioned the concentration of military forces near Belarusian borders, the deterioration of the situation in Ukraine, flights of drones, and the rest. “All of it has to be taken into account, analyzed in order to reduce the number of negative manifestations, challenges, and threats to our state. It is one of the key functions of the General Staff,” Pavel Muraveiko said.

“Bodies belonging to the system designed to ensure national security and the Armed Forces as the backbone of this system are at the peak of their activity and readiness. All the fateful decisions to ensure the operation of the military organization of the state in complicated conditions have been made,” he continued. “It is the job of the General Staff to objectively evaluate the situation and make timely adjustments in order to make the national security system more flexible and tenacious in the course of responding to modern challenges.”

The General Staff chief is convinced that it is important to raise awareness of people so that “ordinary citizens could understand that security comes from efforts of ordinary guys who serve in the army, in police, guys who patrol cities, guard the border, and deal with fires and emergencies.” “A lot depends on how our nation treats its own people in uniform,” he stressed.
