MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) - The Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) has instituted new prizes for young scientists, BelTA learned from the NASB press service.
The Academician Zhores Alferov Prize will be awarded to young scientists in physics, mathematics, computer science, physics and engineering; the Academician Vasiliy Kuprevich Prize - in biology, chemistry, and earth sciences, medicine and agrarian sciences and the Academician Vsevolod Ignatovsky Prize - in humanities and social sciences.
“The decision to assign the prizes the names of prominent Belarusian scientists is designed to perpetuate their memory, to popularize knowledge about the history of Belarusian science, to cultivate a sense of national identity and patriotism among young people,” the NASB said.
The prizes will be awarded annually to young scientists under 35 (as of 1 January of the year of the contest) who work in the organizations affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and who have published the results of their research over the past 5 years. Both individual scientists and authors' groups (but not more than three persons) can be nominated for the prize.
