MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – New deputy prime minister Viktor Karankevich is an experienced economist, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he introduced new vice premier Viktor Karankevich to the heads of ministries and agencies on 13 August, BelTA has learned.

Viktor Karankevich has worked in the energy ministry for quite a long time, and spent six years as energy minister. He worked his way up from an ordinary economist to lead the country’s most important ministry.

“Viktor Mikhailovich is serious-minded person as he always tries to get to the bottom of a problem, find a solution and implement it without unnecessary paperwork. This is very important,” Roman Golovchenko said.

The implementation of such projects as the construction of the Belarusian NPP, modernization of generating capacities, implementation of investment projects will be a great help to Viktor Karankevich in the post of Deputy Prime Minister, the head of the government said. “We have a lot of work to do, large-scale tasks defined by the head of state,” he said.

The prime minister is confident that it will not take long for the new vice premier to get down to work in his new post since he is an enperienced economist. “There are a lot of issues that need to be solved with specific enterprises. It is important to work out solutions that will bring desirable results,” Roman Golovchenko added.

Viktor Karankevich, in turn, thanked the country's authorities for their trust and expressed confidence that with the help of his new colleagues he would quickly join the pace of work to solve the large volume of tasks the industry faces. “I will do my best to justify the trust placed in me,” he said.

Viktor Karankevich replaced Piotr Parkhomchik, who, according to the president's decision, was appointed Brest Oblast Governor.

Roman Golovchenko emphasized that Piotr Parkhomchik had come a long way and had quite a rich experience of working in the industry.

He served as deputy prime minister for two years. “It was a difficult time, associated with sanctions pressure, restructuring of the work of enterprises and entire sectors of the economy, intensification of work with our strategic partners, primarily in industry, the development and signing of relevant maps, the development of cooperation in the electronic sector, machine tool industry, aircraft manufacturing, the adoption of a package of so-called integration projects for the modernization of industry and so on. Piotr Aleksandrovich has proved himself worthy. I think it has not gone unnoticed by the head of state,” the head of government said.

Piotr Parkhomchik thanked his colleagues for their fruitful work and promised to continue working hard in his new position.
