Nematov to head CIS observation mission for Russian presidential election

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The CIS observation mission for the Russian presidential election will be led by CIS Deputy Secretary General Ilkhom Nematov. His candidacy was agreed upon by the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA.

The presidential election in Russia will be held on 15-17 March 2024. The CIS observation mission will monitor the election campaign at the invitation of Russia in accordance with the Convention on Standards of Democratic Election, Voting Rights and Freedoms in the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the regulations on the CIS observation mission for presidential and parliamentary elections and referendums in the CIS member states, in compliance with the Russian legislation.

In its work the CIS observation mission will be guided by the principles of political neutrality, non-interference and transparency in the electoral process and in the internal affairs of the state.
