MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – On 25-26 June, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, jointly with the Defense Ministry, the Education Ministry, and Belarusian public associations, is holding an international conference “Belarus during the Great Patriotic War: History and modernity (to the 80th anniversary of Belarus' liberation),” BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

More than 400 people will take part in the forum. These are representatives of ministries and government agencies of Belarus, the Prosecutor General's Office, scientists, archivists, teachers, students, local historians, museum and library workers from Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Gomel, Vitebsk, Mogilev and other cities of Belarus, and also historians from Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

More than 100 reports and presentations are to be made during the plenary session and panel discussions: “The Great Patriotic War in the scientific, cultural and memorial dimension”, “Events of the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period. History on the pages of school textbooks”, “The Nazi occupation and partisan movement on the territory of Belarus (1941-1944)”.

The Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Defense Ministry, the National Archive and the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library have prepared thematic exhibitions featuring artifacts from the war period, new scientific and popular science publications about little-known episodes of the war. There will be a field kitchen in the courtyard of the National Academy of Sciences, where visitors will be able to try soldiers' porridge.

“The Belarusian strategic offensive Operation Bagration, that resulted in the liberation of Belarus and the end of the genocide of the Belarusian people, showed to the whole world the increased capabilities of the Red Army, the moral high ground of Soviet soldiers and officers, partisans and underground fighters. Interest in this outstanding operation continues unabated decades on,” the National Academy of Sciences remarked.
