MOSCOW, 16 June (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states have almost fulfilled the Paris Agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the presentation of the new journal Eurasian Ecological Bulletin at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on 16 June, BelTA learned from the EEC press service.
“Almost all the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have already approached the targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that they planned to achieve by 2030 as they joined the Paris Agreement,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
He noted that the EAEU pays close attention to environmental protection, green economy, and climate agenda. Green economy is a new economic model that involves environmental conservation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of resources.
A special high-level group was put together to deal with the climate agenda. This group will accept, process and promote the best solutions in the field of climate agenda in the EAEU countries, Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
