MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – As part of BelTA’s YouTube project The Honest Story, the American John Dougan who lives in Russia spoke about his trips to Donbass and expressed indignation at the USA’s interference in Ukrainian affairs.
According to John Dougan, he had been to Donbass 14 times: “It was an awakening for me. Not quite as much as for my translator, Masha, but for me, because I read Western news and watch Western media. And when everything first started happening, even I started believing some of the stuff that they were saying. So I think it was 11 March when I got into a car and I drove to Donbass. And I started talking to people on the ground that were living there. And the story that they were telling was radically different from what the American media was telling to people. Americans are isolated. They don't really pay too much attention to world events.”
“I'll be 100% honest, I didn't really know anything about Donbass until right before the special military operation started. I knew it was there. I knew that there was some kind of civil war going, but I didn't know what it actually was about. And the more I would go, the more I would speak to people, and the more I would learn about the problems that they faced from the cooperation between the American government and the Ukrainian government,” John Dougan said.
He went on saying: “And not only from Maidan times, but a long time even before. The United States has been meddling in Ukraine since right after it split from Russia. They started building biological laboratories in Ukraine as early as 2005. So when I watched the American politicians say, ‘Oh, no, we don't have any biological laboratories in Ukraine’ and then I get to see them personally, see documents personally. And it's very infuriating for me as an American, because, my government is lying so much to the people.”
