MOSCOW, 6 February (BelTA) – MPs supported the initiative on the capitals of culture of the Union State, the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia told BelTA after a meeting of the Commission on Labor, Social Policy and Health of the Parliamentary Assembly in Nizhny Novgorod.
At the meeting it was noted that Belarus has been implementing the Capital of Culture project since 2010. A similar contest, The Capital of Culture of the Year, was held among Russian cities in 2023, with the support of the Russian Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
"In view of a great social and economic importance of these projects, the MPs decided to support these projects at the level of the Union State. The Russian Ministry of Culture and the Belarusian Culture Ministry have suggested that The Capital of Culture, a foundation for cultural, scientific, educational and socio-economic development of territories, draft the documents for the Capital of Culture of the Union State project," the press service added.
