MPs of Belarus, Russia committed to countering  falsification of history

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov and MPs from the city of Minsk took part in a ceremony to lay flowers at the mass grave of Soviet Army soldiers, underground fighters and civilians killed by the Nazi invaders in 1941-1944 ahead of the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People on 22 June, BelTA learned.

“We recently celebrated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The war had the beginning, 22 June. This brutal many-year battle claimed more than 27 million Soviet citizens. It is our duty to remember this,” Vadim Ipatov noted. Today, the members of the House of Representatives together with the Youth Council of the House of Representatives paid tribute to the soldiers, underground fighters and partisans who fell in the battles for the liberation of the Soviet Union from the Nazism.”

The updated Constitution formalized a very important norm on preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, the vice speaker noted. “The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia had a meeting on 16 June. We made a very important decision to set up a commission to preserve the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. It will include representatives of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus,” he stressed. “We will use the intellectual resources of scholars from our countries and establish a scientific advisory council under this commission. Its purpose is to counteract the falsification of history. All these measures help us to preserve the memory of the Great Victory and pass it on to next generations.”
