MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Those who are applauding sanctions could not care less about Belarus, they are just selling the country, Oleg Gaidukevich, member of the House of Representatives, Chairman of Belarus' Liberal Democratic Party, told BelTA.
“The summit between Biden and Putin... Much has already been written about it. It is obvious to me that the world will not be unipolar, this is the reality of today. And Russia will have to be reckoned with, whether someone in the West likes it or not. And this is good. But back to Belarus. Our self-exiled opposition members were delighted by the fact that Biden expressed his deepest concern about the situation in Belarus as he met Putin. On the same day, the ambassadors of the EU countries, of course, by coincidence, agreed on another, fourth package of sanctions against our country. All this caused a wild delight in the failed revolutionaries,” the MP noted.
He wondered what to admire here, because the world has already seen the concern of the United States in Ukraine, Georgia, Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia, Syria. “In fact, they are only concerned about their national interests in the region and the confrontation with Russia and China. Neither democracy, nor freedom or election processes have never interested the West. Had the coup succeeded in 2020, Belarus would have been destined to grumble begging for money to fight against the mythical Russian threat. They are rejoicing at sanctions! They hope for impoverishment, economic decline. And all this will lead to revolution and democracy. Friends, there are no poor democratic countries, this is the first thing, and there are no good revolutions. It is just the beginning. The confrontation in the region will last for a long time. Those who want to crush Belarus hope to see this happen in the course of a referendum, elections, a change of elites in the country. Our task is to consolidate the society, strengthen the country's institutions in order to face the risks,” Oleg Gaidukevich said.
The MP believes that it is necessary to raise a patriotic political elite, to formalize constitutionally the permanent nature of the foundations of the state - bilingualism, geopolitics, social standards.
“We should promote integration and focus on economy. This is the basis of sovereignty and statehood. Well, to those who applaud the sanctions and rejoice at the pressure on Belarus, we can say the following: you are driven by many things – money, like Tikhanovskaya and Viacorka, ambitions, like Latushko who dreamed of politics all his life in the ambassador's office - but not the interests of the country. You don't think about the country. You are selling it,” the MP concluded.
