MP Lukashenko’s aide about early 1990s: It was impossible to feed the family due to inflation

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – A complicated economic situation evolved in Belarus in the early 1990s. It was even impossible to feed the family at times. Vladimir Konoplev, who was an aide to the Belarusian people’s deputy Aleksandr Lukashenko in 1991-1994, shared recollections as part of the documentary “One for all” released by the Belarusian TV channel ONT on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the introduction of presidency in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Konoplev said: “Representatives of the trade sector were treated much better than heads of not only municipal government agencies but even oblast administrations. Because they had access to all the goods in short supply.”

“It was impossible to feed the family due to inflation. You had one kind of money in the morning and a different kind [of purchasing power] in the evening,” he added.
