During the interview to TIME Magazine
MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – No one doubts Aleksandr Lukashenko’s colossal role in global politics anymore, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Irina Dovgalo told a BelTA correspondent commenting on the head of state’s interview with TIME Magazine.
“I believe no one doubts our president’s colossal role in global politics anymore. The head of state’s interview with TIME Magazine is unequivocal proof of this,” said Irina Dovgalo. “However, after hearing out the president’s blunt, precise, and at times uncomfortable answers for the American side, TIME ultimately published its own interpretation. That said, the Belarusian president’s interview with the American journalist is now among the world’s top news stories. It’s being quoted not just by global media, but by ordinary people across the globe. Once again, the call for peace negotiations has been heard worldwide. We’ve reminded everyone: an attack on Belarus is an attack on Russia.”
Belarus, more than anyone else, is interested in a swift peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, the parliamentarian noted. “I’ve been repeatedly convinced of the validity of our leader’s position that negotiations must begin and in this interview, he reiterated it once again: ‘This is my credo, my principle: you must talk to everyone if you want normal relations. If you refuse to talk, you’re gradually moving toward war. We don’t need that.’ If negotiations are conducted wisely, Russia and Ukraine will never fight again; our president is certain of this,” the MP said.
“The interview took place in late July, and on 9 August, the world learned the news about talks between the presidents of Russia and the United States. This, in fact, confirms exactly what our president had said. In fact, he is no fortune-teller, but a realist and an experienced statesman,” added Irina Dovgalo.
