MP hails strong people-to-people diplomacy between Belarusian Grodno, Russian Nizhny Novgorod

SHCHUCHIN, 7 August (BelTA)  - Strong people-to-people diplomacy has been established between Belarus' Grodno Oblast and Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Elena Pasyuta, Chairperson of the Grodno Oblast Council of Deputies, said during a press conference ahead of the upcoming forth Congress of Small Towns, BelTA reports.

“Our regions have indeed developed strong people-to-people diplomacy, which not only fosters human connections but also helps identify regional challenges and shape development strategies. This congress serves as a platform for sharing regional experiences and addressing issues specific to small towns and rural areas,” Elena Pasyuta noted.

The chairperson emphasized that the congress, to be held across six districts of Grodno Oblast, will center on the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

“We will pay special attention to ways of developing incentives for retaining young specialists in rural areas. While our systemic personnel policies yield results, shortages of skilled professionals willing to work in villages persist. With young people we will discuss additional measures to improve living conditions and create opportunities for rural development," Elena Pasyuta said.

She stressed the need to help youth recognize rural life as not just ecologically sound but also spiritually fulfilling, as a place to feel connected to their people and nation. “This is essential for national development. Small regions mean big opportunities, small regions make a big country, strong regions make a strong country," Elena Pasyuta concluded.

Ahead of the fourth Congress of Small Towns of Belarus' Grodno Oblast and Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast scheduled for 12-15 August, Russian media representatives were invited on a press tour across the region. Participants visited landmark cultural sites and industrial facilities in the districts of Slonim, Zelva, Volkovysk, Svisloch and Shchuchin.
