MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – Amendments to the Constitution should reflect today's realities, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives, Doctor of History, Professor Igor Marzalyuk told BelTA.
“We should take into account the reality the country is living in, because the country has changed over 26 years. It is different in terms of wealth, social structure and level of legal awareness. The country was on the brink of an abyss and had to be taken away from it, including by extraordinary measures. Now there is a certain stabilization, a new generation has grown up. The most important thing that should find its way to the amended Constitution is that we should show new perspectives, new social elevators for the further normal, peaceful, evolutionary development of the Belarusian society,” Igor Marzalyuk said.
According to him, the society wants real transformations. “Dialogue platforms held throughout the country provided a wealth of information about what people want and expect. However, this does not mean that all this will be taken on board while drafting the new Constitution, as the Constitution is a law that defines the most important concepts. Yet, today we know in what direction we will move. We will accommodate all these requests as much as possible,” the MP stressed.
