Moscow hosts CIS Defense Ministers Council session

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – A session of the Defense Ministers Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place in Moscow on 10 November, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA.

Participants of the session discussed the advancement of multilateral cooperation in defense and security. The defense ministers exchanged opinions about the military political situation in the world and its effect on the security of the CIS states. Close attention was paid to 30 years of experience of cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States and its prospects.

A report on advancing cooperation of the CIS defense ministries in military education and personnel training was presented. Participants of the session were informed about results of the International Army Games 2021, about efforts to improve professional skills of military personnel, about the participation of the Belarusian army in the development of the CIS joint military communications system, and about the organization of the computer-assisted command post exercise of the CIS air defense system Regional Security 2022.

The defense ministers decided to make Russia's Zhukovsky-Gagarin Air Force Academy the basic CIS organization for training Air Force personnel.

The defense ministers approved next year's events concerning the CIS joint air defense system and decided to establish a medal in recognition of contributions to peace building.

Representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry added that Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on the sidelines of the CIS Defense Ministers Council session. They discussed cooperation and its prospects. Viktor Khrenin also met with other CIS defense ministers.
