MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – In January-August 2025 the number of people, who contacted the commission tasked with considering petitions of Belarusian citizens, who stay abroad and need to know whether they face charges in Belarus, doubled in comparison with January-August 2024. The commission’s deputy chairman, Deputy Prosecutor General of Belarus Aleksei Stuk made the statement on the air of the First News TV channel, BelTA has learned.

Aleksei Stuk said: “Judging by the statistics of petitions, I should say that [the interest of Belarusians willing to get back to the home country] is not waning. If we compare periods of last year and this year, then in January-August 2024 as many as 41 people appealed to the commission and 82 people did it in January-August 2025. The figures are self-explanatory.”

He remarked that the number of people willing to come back is much larger than the number of those, who have dared go back to Belarus.

“Because I’d say a massive and aggressive campaign has been launched abroad to intimidate the people, our Belarusians, who would like to come back. They are getting persuaded that upon return they will be monitored, that they will be put down on special lists and will lose rights. It is claimed that they face criminal charges and will get the most severe punishment. I’d like to assure them that the claims are absolutely not objective,” the official stressed.
