Molostov: Belarusian border guards will stay on high alert on southern border

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – Belarusian border guards will stay on high alert on the southern border, Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Konstantin Molostov told the media following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss the country's military security in the southern operational district on 13 July, BelTA has learned.

From the point of view of protecting the state border of Belarus, the situation on the southern borders remains difficult, because of the hostilities going on in the neighboring country, Ukraine, the head of the State Border Committee said. According to him, the number of mixed minefields on the Ukrainian side in close vicinity to the state border of Belarus is increasing. The main roads towards the checkpoints are blocked. Reconnaissance operations with regard to the territory of our country continue, including the use of drones.

At the same time, the number of provocations by the Ukrainian military has decreased considerably. According to the head of the State Border Committee, no provocations near the state border or preconditions for them have been observed in recent days.

By decision of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, based on the findings and assessment of the situation, the border guards will continue to work in an enhanced mode," Konstantin Molostov said.

As BelTA has reported, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko ordered to withdraw troops from the southern border to places of their permanent deployment. The decision was taken following the diffusion of tensions on the border as Ukraine withdrew troops from the border area. Belarus had to respond to the recent escalation at the border with Ukraine by beefing up border security and reinforcing border guards with army units.

“I want people to know (I absolutely trust our intelligence): the situation has been stabilized at the Belarus-Ukraine border. Their troops have been removed. Therefore, guys, our troops need to be pulled back from the border, too. It will send them a signal (as we have agreed) that we are not going to fight and we are not going to increase military presence here, except for special operations forces,” the Belarusian leader said.
