MOGILEV DISTRICT, 7 September (BelTA) – It is important to teach young people to distinguish facts from myths and manipulations, Mogilev Oblast Governor Anatoly Isachenko said at the plenary session of the Belarus-Russia Union State forum titled “The role of youth in preserving and protecting historical memory” at the Mogilev Oblast Glory Museum in Buinichi, BelTA has learned.
Taking part in the session are Chairman of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin and First Deputy Chairman of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko. Before the event, they visited the memorial on Buinichi Field and laid flowers at the chapel in memory of the feat of people who fought in the Great Patriotic War. They also had a tour of the Mogilev Oblast Glory Museum.

“This is not just a meeting of neighbors; it is a gathering of true friends. I am certain this forum will build another sturdy bridge between our fraternal peoples. We see the modern world clearly: information travels at the speed of light, but truth is left behind, distorted beyond recognition. External forces are working to ensnare our youth in destructive behavior and impose counterfeit values upon them. They cannot convince us, the older generation, to forsake our principles and ideals. Our task, therefore, is to arm our youth with the tools of critical thought, to help them set priorities right, and to see through the fog of myths and outright manipulation,” he said.
This requires practical projects that will actively engage young people in the study of history. As an example, he highlighted the initiatives underway in Mogilev Oblast: “We now have patriotic clubs in nearly every school, plus over 140 museums and more than 250 war and genocide exhibitions. Crucially, students lead most of the tours, showing their authentic interest. Many are also engaged in search activities. The key is that projects must be youth-driven. Only then can they truly succeed,” he said.
He also proposed setting up an educational historical and patriotic center for young people under the auspices of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly.
