MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – The Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia unlocks regional potentials, Chairman of the Commission on Industry and Trade of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Sergey Mitin said during the Minsk-Moscow videoconference to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty on 3 December, BelTA has learned.
"The Forum of Regions is a great event. Every forum gave a new impetus to the subjects of both Belarus and Russia. This year we found out that Vitebsk Oblast is a very powerful player in agriculture, veterinary medicine, veterinary medicine production, and mechanical engineering. Nizhny Novgorod will host the next forum. It is a hub of Russian industry, science and economy. It also performs well in agriculture," Sergey Mitin stated.
Sergei Rachkov, the chairman of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly Commission on International Affairs, Migration Policy and Relations with Compatriots, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of Belarus, added that the Forum of Regions is held under the auspices of the presidents of the two countries.
"One of the most important tasks of the forums is to promote interregional cooperation. The subjects of Russia and the regions of Belarus have concluded over 400 agreements. Interregional cooperation also serves as a very strong driver of economic interaction between Belarus and Russia. The forum also hosts business meetings and negotiations that result in contracts worth trillions of Russian rubles. This is the practical results of these forums," Sergei Rachkov emphasized.
