Minsk to host International Cyril and Methodius Readings on 18-19 May

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – The 27th two-day edition of the International Cyril and Methodius Readings will kick off in Minsk on 18 May, BelTA learned from the press service of Belarusian State University (BSU).

“This year's edition of the readings will be held within the framework of the BSU centennial anniversary celebrations. The forum will be centered around the topic of spiritual significance of Faithful Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky in the historical context. Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, and BSU Rector Andrei Korol will deliver the welcoming address at the opening ceremony. The plenary session of the readings will feature representatives of Christian denominations, government agencies, and embassies of foreign countries in Belarus,” the BSU press service said.

All in all, around 90 figures of culture and science, heads, teachers, under- and postgraduate students of secular and religious universities from Belarus, Russia, and Azerbaijan have confirmed their participation in the event. The readings will comprise several sections: “Christian values in the educational system”, “Theological legacy of Metropolitan Filaret”, “Spiritual and moral foundations of Belarusian culture: Legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius in the modern world”, “The Bible in history and culture”, “Medicine and spirituality: Modern bioethics”, “Problems of religious studies in the 21st century”, and “Interdenominational dialogue in science and culture”.

Following the conference, the BSU will publish a collection of materials of the readings.

The organizers are the Belarusian Education Ministry, the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the BSU Institute of Theology of Saints Methodius and Cyrill, and the international public association “Christian educational center named after Saints Methodius and Cyrill”.
