MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – Military, scientists and historians will take part in the international conference, Belarus: The Memorable Summer of 1944, in Minsk, BelTA learnt from the Defense Ministry of Belarus.
On 19 June a plenary session will be opened by Defense Minister of Belarus Lieutenant General Yuri Zhadobin. The minister will present a report on the development of the Soviet Union military art during military operations on the territory of Belarus, the background and results of the Bagration Operation. The Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will exhibit unique archival and museum materials, military literature.
On 20 June the participants of the conference will work in four sections: Problems of Historiography and Source Studies of the Great Patriotic War, the Soviet Union military art during the Great Patriotic War, The Nazi regime of occupation and the partisan movement in the occupied Belarus, Belarus in the system of international relations and the recovery of the national economy.
Belarus: The Memorable Summer of 1944 conference is organized by the National Academy of Sciences and the Defense Ministry to mark the 70th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the Nazis. Partaking in the event apart from scientists and archivists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland will be representatives of the government bodies, the National Security Institute, the National Archive of Belarus, military and civil higher educational establishments, veterans organizations. Attending the conference on behalf of the Armed Forces will be representatives of the Defense Ministry, the General Staff, air and air-defense forces, major commands, military units of the Belarusian army, the Research Institute of the Armed Forces and the Military Academy of Belarus.
Among the invitees are delegations of the Academy of Military Sciences of Russia, the Armed Forces of Russia, the International Center for Geopolitical Studies, the Russian Military Historical Society, delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, military attaches from Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Syria.
