Minsk to host CIS young historians summer school

MOSCOW, 13 August (BelTA) – A summer school for young historians from CIS countries, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, will be hosted by the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus from 18 to 22 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation, the event's supporting organization.

The summer school will bring together young historians and academics from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan. The program includes discussions on key topics related to World War II and the Great Patriotic War, such as international relations in 1939–1945, genocide and war crimes in the occupied territories of the USSR, partisan resistance, civilian life during the war and historical memory.

“Summer school will hold field seminars at the Khatyn Memorial Complex, the Masyukovschina Memorial Complex (Stalag 352), the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War and the National Archives of Belarus. The event will also feature the presentation of a collective monograph titled The Peoples of the Soviet Union and the Great Victory, 1941–1945, prepared by leading experts from the national academies of sciences of Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Additionally, the latest publications on the history of the Great Patriotic War by the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will be showcased,” the press service noted.

“The event will contribute to evidence-based approaches in studying World War II and strengthen professional ties among historians from CIS countries,” the press service added.
