MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) - Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev told the media how the city authorities addressed the parking space issue, BelTA has learned.
"Parking issues are very serious. As of today, there are 900,000 registered vehicles in the city, and about 200,000 more enter Minsk daily. For a compact city like Minsk, this is certainly a heavy traffic load. We are investing large amounts of money in the development of transport systems. We are expanding the metro: three new stations were introduced in 2024. We are purchasing electric transport, establishing new routes," Vladimir Kukharev stated.
Thus the citizens are being provided with necessary transport and logistics, the mayor said. "However, if people want to drive to the city center, they must understand that their cars need to be parked somewhere. At present, there is no available space to build parking lots or additional parking areas. It would be completely wrong to cut down trees in order to create parking. Therefore, we have devised a system to create additional parking spaces without significant investments. Everyone must understand that there will be a small fee for these parking spots. We will continue working in this direction," Vladimir Kukharev concluded.
