Minsk, Managua outline cooperation areas

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) - Minsk City Hall and Managua City Hall have signed an agreement on trade and economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation. The signing ceremony took place as part of a visit of a delegation from the capital of Nicaragua, led by Mayor Reina Juanita Rueda Alvarado, to Minsk on 27 May, BelTA has learned.

According to Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev, the visit coincided with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries. “We see serious prospects in the development of cooperation,” Vladimir Kukharev said. “We have no closed topics and we are ready to discuss a wide range of issues.”

The parties focused on the development of joint assembly plants, service centers, equipment supplies, cooperation in education and healthcare. The visiting delegation showed interest in Minsk's housing and utilities best practices, as well as in the culture and history of the country. While in the capital city, the delegation of Managua is set to visit industrial and transportation enterprises.

Reina Juanita Rueda Alvarado thanked for the opportunity to visit Minsk and warm welcome, and invited the representatives of Minsk City Hall to pay a return visit to Nicaragua.

“We feel comfortable in this city. We represent a large municipality, so the transportation sector is of particular interest to us. The document signed today will help us continue the development of contacts in culture, education, and technical cooperation. We wish prosperity and health to this beautiful nation,” Reina Juanita Rueda Alvarado said.

She conveyed greetings from the president of Nicaragua, emphasizing the high level of trust between the states. “Minsk impressed us, charmed us. We are counting on fruitful work,” Reina Juanita Rueda Alvarado said.

Vladimir Kukharev added that the capital cities have always set the pace of cooperation for all other regions. It has become a tradition to hold festivals of national cultures in Minsk, and Managua could present the culture of Nicaragua in Minsk. One of the promising areas is the participation of Nicaragua’s athletes in competitions held in the Belarusian capital, their preparation for international competitions at Minsk sports institutions.

Vladimir Kukharev emphasized that the peoples of the two countries were able to defend their independence and invited the guests to see the exposition of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.

The foreign delegation praised the potential of mutually beneficial cooperation. Nicaragua's location in the heart of Latin America opens wide opportunities for Belarusian manufacturers to use this platform for trade with other countries of the region.

The visit of the Managua delegation will continue through 29 May. The program includes visits to Kommunarka, the Minsktrans Traffic Control Center, Minskvodokanal, and the Unified Settlement and Information Center of Minsk.
