Minsk, Kazan become sister cities

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – Minsk and Kazan have become twin cities. The agreement on twinning relations and cooperation was signed in Minsk City Hall on 5 December during the visit of Kazan’s delegation to Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

According to Vladimir Kukharev, the agreement will give impetus to the development of relations in all areas. "No topic is off-limit for us," the Minsk mayor said. "We see good prospects for cooperation and can work out new avenues. Our main task is to work with young people so that they could communicate with each other."

In turn, Ilsur Metshin emphasized that he was glad to visit Minsk, a city with a rich history. Kazan has been planning the visit for a long time, but it was postponed due to important international events held in Kazan. "I would like to congratulate Minsk on the results it has achieved. Minsk is one of the examples of modern urbanism, successful urban management. This experience deserves not only respect, but also study," the Kazan mayor noted.

A delegation from the capital of Tatarstan, Russia arrived in Minsk on 4 December. The parties discussed trade, projects to set up joint ventures, and humanitarian cooperation. During the visit, the guests toured MAZ, managing company of BELAVTOMAZ holding company, the National Children's Technopark, the Educational Center for Life Safety of the Emergencies Ministry, and others.

According to Ilsur Metshin, trade and economic interaction is gaining momentum, including in the supply of utility vehicles and passenger transport. "But we must move further. Humanitarian cooperation is important for us. Our talented children, participants of national academic competitions, athletes, cultural representatives, students are our future. They should be together," he emphasized.

Kazan also showed interest in the business support practice.  "Belarusians are wonderful, hardworking people. Let's build friendships between our cities and learn the best from each other!" the Kazan mayor added.

Vladimir Kukharev thanked for the high appreciation of the city services. On this occasion, he congratulated Ilsur Metshin on his election as President of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities. "We are willing to examine your work experience in many areas too," he stated.

The meeting discussed the holding of the Days of Kazan in Minsk and the Days of Minsk in Kazan, and the exchange of delegations.

 Kazan became Minsk's 37th sister city.
