Minsk hosts meeting of Education Ministries of Belarus, Russia

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Minsk is playing host to a joint session of the boards of the Education Ministry of Belarus, the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus and the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, BelTA has learned.

Deputy State Secretary of the Union State Viktor Sirenko told the media that the agencies of the countries have been working effectively. “On 17 November, we signed a landmark document in facilitating the accreditation of universities of both countries. This is the base, the platform on which we can build the system of higher education. It is important for us that there is a healthy interest in the educational environment in Belarus, where there are two branches of Russian universities. Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov got familiar with the base, the programs and the activities of these universities. It is extremely important for Belarus that students who are educated there are in demand in the labor market in the future, that this is an education of a very high level,” he said.

According to the deputy state secretary, the Russian side has expressed a desire to visit the Belarusian-Russian University in Mogilev. “This is the only university in the country that trains students according to the Russian and Belarusian programs. The university has been renovated through the Union State and the Standing Committee. I would also like to recall the Forum of the Union State engineering and technology universities which is held at the Belarusian National Technical University. Next year the forum will take place for the 10th time. Other countries and other universities are also showing interest in the forum,” he said.

Viktor Sirenko added that the pandemic had unfortunately affected the plans of the two countries. “A tourist meeting, a meeting of natural scientists, the Olympics cannot take place remotely. We hope that the new year will let us fulfill the tasks we have set forth. After all, we miss direct personal contacts while communicating online. It is more difficult to convey cordiality through a screen,” he added.
