Minsk hosts international conference on criminal policy, pre-trial proceedings

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) - The international conference on criminal policy and pre-trial proceedings has opened in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The conference has been organized by Belarus' Investigation Committee with the support of OOO Urspectr law company. Its theme is “Effective criminal policy and optimal model of pre-trial proceedings - the priority for legal science and practice.”

“Our forum has become traditional. This is a great opportunity for practitioners and academics to share their views on law enforcement practices, pre-trial proceedings, the development of legal science. These themes are important for us which is manifested in a large representation. We are hosting guests from five states. This is the first time representatives of the European Court of Human Rights are participating in the forum. I think we will reap great benefits both in terms of practical application and development of legal science,” First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Investigation Committee Aleksei Volkov said.

During two days the guest speakers will address issues of criminal law, procedure and forensics. Possible ways to streamline and rationalize the criminal process will be on the agenda as well. The conference will also discuss legislative initiatives of the Investigation Committee regarding pre-trial criminal proceedings.

The international forum is attended by senior officials and officers of law enforcement bodies (Investigation Committee, the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the KGB, the Prosecutor General's Office), experts and representatives of the research agencies, leading universities of Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine and France.

The conference will be running till 26 April.
