MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – An address to the peoples of the world to preserve peace and stop wars on the planet was adopted at a peace rally held on Independence Square in Minsk on 21 September, the International Day of Peace, BelTA learned.
The address was read out by Elena Staselko, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of Minsk City Branch of the Belarusian Peace Fund.
It notes that peace is the basis for the successful development of any nation, the opportunity to live, work and study peacefully, to create families, to raise children, to rejoice and laugh without fear that all this could be destroyed in an instant.
“We want all people of the world to see only peaceful dawns and sunsets, and we urge you to preserve pristine nature, historical monuments and cultural heritage. We sincerely believe that any conflict can be resolved peacefully. Let us remember: we all live in one big and common family on planet Earth. This is our common home,” the address reads.
The participants of the peace rally are sure that only by uniting efforts, it is possible to preserve peace, because peace begins with everyone.
“We're calling on you. We all need it. Let there be peace on earth, let there be friendship. Let the radiant sun shine for all of us, and let no one will ever know war,” Elena Staselko said.

Participants of the peace rally appealed to all people of the planet, to the leaders and governments of all nations, to the entire world community with a call to stand up for world peace. “We call on you to take active action for the sake of peace! Let's change the world for our children and together with them!” the address reads.

The Peace Bell rang in support of the address. With this symbolic action, the participants expressed their hope that the call of their open hearts for peace would reach all corners of the vast globe and find an echo in every caring heart.
The rally was timed to the Day of National Unity and dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. The rally was attended by delegations of all peace schools of the capital city (55 schools in Minsk currently have the status “Peace School”), members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Minsk City Council of Deputies, representatives of the Minsk city administration, diplomatic missions, religious denominations, and members of the general public.
