Minister: The role of women in Belarus’ public, economic life has changed over decades

MINSK, 4 March MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) - Over the past decades, the role of women in the public, economic and political life of Belarus has changed significantly: it has become more active and weighty, Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar said in an interview with BelTA.

“Over the last decades the role of women in the public, economic and political life of Belarus has changed significantly: it has become more active and weighty. Our women are educated and hardworking. Two-thirds of them have higher or vocational education. 84.5% of women of working age are employed,” Yuri Chebotar said. “If we talk about women’s participation in various areas of activity, women prevail in education, healthcare, financial and insurance activities. By the way, 70% of civil servants are women.”

According to him, today every third entrepreneur in Belarus is a woman. “Such positive trends are largely thanks to the purposeful policy of the state, which consistently takes comprehensive measures to ensure that every Belarusian woman can become self-fulfilled in her profession, taking into account her wishes, level of education and competence, provides significant support to families with children,” the minister said.
