Minister: Creation of Belarus' own coronavirus vaccine is on schedule

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – The creation of Belarus' own coronavirus vaccine is proceeding as planned, Healthcare Minister Dmitry Pinevich said in an interview with the SB. Belarus Segodnya daily.

“Everything is going on in line with the schedule. By 2023 we plan to register the Belarusian vaccine. It remains to be seen whether we will have to mass-produce it. Yet, we must be fully prepared for any epidemic,” Dmitry Pinevich said.

He explained that if pilot production is successful, the government will provide funds to scale up the project.

“The main task is to build a plant to produce inactivated vaccines in Vitebsk. We will create a platform to produce medicines against any infection. In the same place we will set up a complex to conduct pre-clinical and clinical studies - something that Belarus has never had before. This will open up a plethora of opportunities that we can use,” the minister said.
