Minister: Belarusian police will ensure order and safety during 2024 elections

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Order and safety will be ensured on the single voting day in Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov said after the special tactical exercise of internal affairs units of Minsk garrison on 14 February, BelTA has learned from the Internal Affairs Ministry’s press service. 

“We have analyzed situations that occurred at polling stations in Belarus in 2020 and in other countries. Currently, together with the chairmen of precinct election commissions, we have developed an algorithm of actions in such cases,” the minister said. “We have shown that the police of Minsk and entire country are ready to maintain public order and citizens’ safety. We have forces and resources to do this.”

Ivan Kubrakov emphasized that the focus of law enforcement training is on the ability to act in the most difficult conditions. He also talked about the organization of the work of police and internal troops during the election campaign. 

“On 19 February, the police will be put on a high alert duty. For this purpose, we will involve more than 10,000 people. The polling stations will be protected by the law enforcement personnel. Order and safety will be ensured in the entire country. In the border areas, we will involve special units of internal troops and police. We are ready to respond to all possible provocations. We have already identified and prosecuted those who tried to provoke and insult our citizens,” he said.
 
The minister also addressed the members of election commissions: “Work calmly. Order and safety in the country and protection of each of you will be ensured.”
