Minister: Belarus plans to increase export of construction services in 2024

MINSK, 7 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian construction industry will continue to develop steadily in 2024, Belarusian Architecture and Construction minister Ruslan Parkhamovich said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

"The construction industry in 2023 was one of the main drivers of economic growth. We met all the targets. Along with trade and manufacturing sector, we contributed more than 5% to the national GDP. We did well in terms of manufacturing (both the volume of production and physical values), and also in terms of export of services and goods," Ruslan Parkhamovich said.

The minister highlighted the growth of export. "First of all, it concerns the export of services. We have been steadily increasing the export of services. The architecture and engineering services enterprises did well and posted growth too," he said.

Based on the five-year outlook, the construction industry will meet all the main targets, Ruslan Parkhamovich is convinced. The plans for 2024 include further progressive development of the construction industry. "This applies to the services sector, contracting work. Our builders will continue to build more both in the country and abroad. In manufacturing industry, the focus is on import substitution, export, diversification of export. Housing construction is, let's say, our priority. A total of 4.4 million square meters of housing is the target for 2024. These include housing for large families, all-electric hoes, rental housing," the minister shared the plans.

He also indicated that the construction sector has its focus on two main things. "One of them is single-piece construction of houses. Thus we optimize the existing residential development. Single-piece construction is when one house is built without any additional infrastructure because it is already there," Ruslan Parkhamovich explained. “If we are talking about the construction of new neighborhoods of multi-apartment residential development, then we have shifted the approaches and do not build houses one by one, but design the entire neighborhood. The developer, who carries out the construction of engineering and transport infrastructure, gradually builds up residential buildings and infrastructure providing a proper level of comfort: courtyards without cars, social facilities, green spaces."

Everything is spelled out in the Belarusian construction standards, including the comfortable environment, but everything depends on the developer. "He can offer an even more comfortable environment and attract more attention to his products," said the minister.

The issues of import substitution in the construction sector get closest attention. "If we talk in general about the construction industry, both industrial construction, housing construction, engineering and also transportation infrastructure, the share of domestic materials stands at 85%. Some 15% of equipment, materials, components come from outside. All the rest is successfully produced in our country by both state-owned and private enterprises," Ruslan Parkhamovich added.
