MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – The work of the Information Ministry and all the agencies reporting to it will be brought into line with the requirements of the time, Vladimir Pertsov, the newly appointed Information Minister, told reporters answering a question from a BelTA correspondent.
Vladimir Pertsov emphasized: “The president has set a task to recalibrate the work of the ministry in accordance with the requirements of the time and taking into account the ongoing information war. Therefore, it is necessary to be more agile instead of playing catch-up, and to fill the information space with our content amidst the information confrontation, to dominate the media landscape, to make our work more efficient and impactful,” he said.
The new minister also noted that these days the information agenda can change within a minute, and this should be taken into account. Along with this, the ministry has to comply with bureaucratic procedures, which is inevitable for a state-run agency. “When the sentiment changes so fast, it is not always right to conduct such bureaucratic correspondence. In this regard, the ministry and the organizations under its umbrella should be fast enough to keep up with the requirements of the time,” Vladimir Pertsov is convinced.
The new minister also said that much attention should be paid to the entire media landscape of our country. Now people in Belarus have easy access to Russian, Ukrainian and Western mass media. At the same time, neither YouTube nor other platforms in Belarus are blocked or censored. The access to social networks is not restricted.
“In our media landscape there is a fairly large share of content that is not produced in Belarus, therefore, the agenda and public sentiment are shaped to a certain extent by foreign producers and broadcasters. We will be equally democratic, like the leading democracies – the time prompts us to apply the same rules as these countries apply at home, you know them very well,” Vladimir Pertsov said.
Prior to his new appointment, Vladimir Pertsov worked as Director of Belarus' Office of the Mir broadcasting company.
