MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) - Belarus hopes to resume dialogue with Poland on Belovezhskaya Pushcha, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Sergei Maslyak said at the Nevsky International Ecological Congress in St. Petersburg, Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry.
Sergei Maslyak informed congress participants about the situation related to the construction of a border fence by Poland at the transboundary UNESCO World Heritage site Belovezhskaya Pushcha. "This issue is of great importance to us, as every Belarusian feels a special pride when it comes to Belovezhskaya Pushcha, a globally recognized natural heritage site," the minister emphasized.
After explaining the major points, Sergei Maslyak stated: "We will continue to make every possible effort to resume a constructive dialogue with the Polish side across various platforms and formats, primarily to restore wildlife migration routes and prevent the degradation of unique ecosystems."
The minister also delivered a report during the session to discuss low-carbon solutions for green economy development." He stressed that green economy development should focus on two key areas: eliminating accumulated environmental damage and integrating modern eco-friendly technologies into industrial production to achieve environmental neutrality.
The congress also served as a platform to strengthen international cooperation. During a meeting between Sergei Maslyak and Iranian Vice President Shina Ansari, agreements were reached to draft a memorandum of cooperation on environmental protection. The parties discussed the need to further supplement the future document with a roadmap, which will include specific joint initiatives.
During a meeting with Chairman of All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation Vyacheslav Fetisov, the parties focused on cooperation in environmental education and establishing partnerships between the Russian and Belarusian organizations. Sergei Maslyak invited Vyacheslav Fetisov to be an honorary guest and speaker at the 3rd international specialized exhibition ECOLOGY EXPO and the XVII National Environmental Forum in Belarus.
The meeting between Sergei Maslyak and Head of the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources of Russia (Rosnedra) Oleg Kazanov confirmed mutual interest and readiness to continue cooperation in geological exploration of mineral resources. The parties praised the current level of cooperation and discussed promising areas for further joint work.
