
MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) - Military-technical cooperation is a crucial element of the relationship between Belarus and Russia, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov on 16 May, BelTA has learned.
Following the meeting, Viktor Khrenin emphasized that Belarus and Russia hold similar views on ensuring the security of the Belarus-Russia Union State.
"The meeting [of Andrei Belousov] with the Belarusian president demonstrated that the head of state closely monitors all aspects of our relations. Military and military-technical cooperation is the cornerstone of our interstate interaction," Viktor Khrenin said.


He emphasized that further steps have been agreed upon to maintain and strengthen defense capabilities, ensuring protection against military security threats and responding to aggression if necessary.
"Our joint work in this direction will continue. All agreements, including the implementation of the Treaty on Security Guarantees within the framework of the Union State, have been honored fully. We have stood and will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder to safeguard the security of our countries and peoples, taking all necessary response measures in case of any threats to the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation," Viktor Khrenin assured.
