Military expert comments on main signal of Victory Parade in Moscow: ‘World saw who is with whom’

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - The Victory Parade held in Moscow on 9 May was not just a military event. It clearly showed who continues the traditions of the fight against Nazism, and who betrayed the memory of the fallen, military expert and political analyst Yakov Kedmi said a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project “V teme” [On point].
He said the participation of world leaders in the commemorations showed a clear division between those who were once in the ranks of the Red Army fighting Nazism and those who were its allies or who are distorting the historical truth today. "It was a clear division - into former allies of Nazism, those who fought against the USSR alongside it, and those who stood with the Red Army against the Nazis. This division also revealed that Europe betrayed those who fought against Nazism, be they soldiers or partisans. Not only on the territory of the Soviet Union, but also in France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Slovakia," Yakov Kedmi emphasized.

The expert noted that the countries with active anti-fascist movements during the war actually ignore the memory of partisans, and some are even hostile to them. They are still fighting against these people albeit with different methods than those used by the Nazis, he said. "There is another part of the world - the one that celebrated Victory Day together with the USSR and other countries. They came to solidarize with the victory over Nazism," he added.

Yakov Kedmi also drew a historical parallel. "We can paraphrase Stalin's words: 9 May is a holiday of victory over Nazism, and 8 May is a day of mourning for those who were in league with it. The parade clearly showed that.”

He also emphasized that the countries whose representatives came to Moscow did so of their own free will, "without pressure, coercion or threats.” "This is one of the main features of 9 May 2025 - the world saw who is with whom," Yakov Kedmi summarized.
